Building Community at Ballard
The past few weeks, the Ballard staff has been meeting on Sundays at 7:30am to have breakfast and pray for the coming day. On Mondays we’ve been meeting for lunch to reflect on the previous day and pray for the coming week. It’s been an amazing experience each week to hear how God is building community at the Ballard campus. Here are just a few of those stories.
A few weeks ago, I met two guys in the Visitor Center who sat next to each other during the service. They met during the “meet and greet” and found out that they were both taking time off from school for health reasons and were looking to get into community. That next Wednesday, they showed up to the Connect Bible Study ready to serve.
Last week, Pastor Brad House met a guy after one of the services who wanted to know more about community groups. When Pastor Brad told him he was the pastor who oversees community groups, the guy looked up at the sky and said “You did this, didn’t you?”
Deacon Joe Filbrun met a couple who recently moved here from the UK. They had been praying to find a church that loves Jesus and believes the Bible is God’s Word. By no coincidence, that was precisely Pastor Mark’s focus in his sermon last week (as it is every week because, as he said, it’s all about Jesus; it’s always about Jesus). Within a week, they had found a community group only a block from where they live and it sounds like they’re already developing some meaningful relationships and settling into Ballard.
It’s clear that God’s will for us is to be in relationship with him and those around us. Because of Jesus, this is possible. God’s grace allows us to share life together–serving, supporting, loving, and caring for one another.
If you’re not already in community at Ballard, our prayer is that you would join a community group or come to the Connect Bible Study on Wednesday nights so that you can experience the redemptive work God is doing through community. If you have any questions, you can email ballardcommunity@marshillchurch.org.
