Pour me out into others…or Why I became a member

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Written by Tami Hagglund
About a month ago I decided I’d love to write an entry on why I became a member of Mars Hill- I am deeply convicted that it’s vital to the spiritual health of our church family, so I can’t think of a better topic to write about for this blog than [...]

Beach Baptism Follow-up

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Last week, roughly 4-5 hundred people met at Golden Gardens to celebrate the baptism of 54 Christians.
The beautiful summer evening started with BBQs and ended with smores (thanks college ministry folks). In between, those who were gathered sang a handful of worship songs led by members of E-Pop, listened to Pastor Bubba explain what it means to be a Christian [...]

Mars Hill in the Ballard Tribune

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

The Ballard News-Tribune published an article this week documenting the growth of Mars Hill Church. The piece covers a variety of topics ranging from women in ministry to the use of technology, and includes an interview with Death by Love co-author Gerry Breshears:
Describing Driscoll as a “fanatic for Jesus,” Breshears believes the pastor has a [...]

Changed by Jesus: A New Family

Friday, July 11th, 2008

This amazing story was on the Mission & Vision blog today…a must read!
Posted by Pastor Jamie Munson
A story came to us this week of great redemption. Jesus has taken so many evils and wrongs in this woman’s life and used them for her good and his glory. I trust you’ll find her story encouraging.
The “Changed [...]

Adventures in Worship Music: Acoustic Guitar to Hip Hop in Two Weeks

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Written By: Pastor Tim Smith
The last two weeks of music at the Ballard campus have been unusual.
Two weeks ago Pastor Mark was preaching on worship as part of our Doctrine series. We decided that it would be a good opportunity to emphasize the larger context of worship by stripping things down musically. I stripped [...]

I have a question

Live Texting—I Have a Question
In my four years as a high school English teacher, one nemesis has reigned supreme over all other challenges that I’ve faced—texting. Students are so obsessed with staying current on the latest gossip, homework assignments, or happenings on campus that they constantly have their phones peeking out of their pockets and [...]

Four Times

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

written by Tami Hagglund
The number loomed before me, taunting me. While shopping for my wedding dress, a Christian friend who’d known me for 5 years- long enough to know I’d never dated nor even kissed a man until age 24 when I met the man I was then preparing to marry- quipped about how [...]

Men’s Advance follow-up!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

written by Joe Filburn
Yeah, it may seem something of a silly wordplay, calling Mars Hill’s annual men’s weekend an “advance” rather than a “retreat.” But it’s an effective metaphor, nonetheless, and I saw it expressed in reality this weekend.
Now, some people may have the idea that the Men’s Advance is not much more than a [...]

Jonah Sermon Series: Week Three

The Mars Hill mission statement maintains that we are to “live for Jesus as a city within the city.” As Pastor Mark often reminds us, this doesn’t mean blindly indulging in every aspect of the city or conversely, isolating ourselves either; instead, it’s a call to “know culture and love people” in an attempt to [...]
